What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Happy, Pretty Green Stuff

We've had a lot of rain lately and some cooler temperatures. Everything is a lovely bright green right now. I have always loved wildflowers and they are everywhere right now. So pretty!
Today we ventured down an old dirt road and and found lovely purple flowers.

More purple flowers growing around a down tree. Remnants of that nasty old ice storm.
Pretty yellow wildflowers. Weeds, as The Breadman calls them. I like them!

A trumpet vine in full bloom. I'd love to have one of these in my yard.
Nature's Hummingbird feeder!

A pretty yellow daisy of some sort. It just looks happy, don't you think?
And, speaking of green stuff and happy stuff.

We went to the Casino today for the first time. I walked in with $20.00 and left with $120.00. I am loving that beautiful Ben Franklin $100.00 Bill. I could buy the entire Super Cheap Thrift with that thing!

  3. Why is it that men just don't 'get-it' when it comes to flowers??! DH fondly refers to the flowers in my gardens as 'weeds'!! Beautiful photos!

    Oh, and Happy Day Eve!!!

  4. WooHoo! Lady luck was with you! I've been to one of those riverboat casinos once. We brought $80 to gamble with, and we lost it all in 30 minutes! It was part of a tour group, so we were stuck on that boat for another 2 hours. Boring!

  5. Lovin the flower pics. Tell breadman "weeds are just flowers, growing in the wrong place" Good for you winning that $$$. I haven't won a thing in a while, let alone $$...I'm still trying to figure out how you did 700 posts!! I've been blogging for 2 years, and I'm just getting close to 100. :o} Have a great weekend *e*
