What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

The Week in Junk: 6/4/12

Friday morning there were so many yard sales listed that I actually had to make a list!  I usually just go out and see what I can find.  But, this time, I had to make a list and map out my route.  I only ended up going to one Church Sale and a one mile long neighborhood sale.  I didn't buy that much worth reporting, but it was a glorious day to be out junking.  It was June 1st and it was only 67 degrees out - gorgeous!

I've said here before that there aren't any big Church sales around here.  But, there is one that I go to every year - right up the road from me on the first weekend in June.  It's not a huge sale like some of the Church Sales I see on other blogs, but it is still pretty good sized.  And, you really cannot beat the prices.  I spotted a few things marked 5¢, 10¢, 15¢, etc.  Where else can you actually pay a NICKEL for something?

I spotted a box full of Christmas light strands with the nice big bulbs for $1.00, so I grabbed it.  When I got it home, I discovered that there was a total of 292 bulbs in that box!  I love adding these to my wreaths at Christmas and I have been wanting to make an entire wreath covered in lights.  I think I can do that now!

I found these baby items in different areas around the sale.  The little dress is all handmade - so delicate and pretty.  Price for the dress, the How To Tell Time Book , the Prayer's for Boys and Girls book and the silver baby cup?????  60¢ total.

I ended the junking on the early side because the Walmart Shareholders Meting was in town and there are lots of interesting things to go and see and do.  We drove around town and saw the Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile, people from all over the world walking around, giant blow up advertising characters and some other fun stuff.  Like....
 Elvis.
 Monster Trucks.
 The Goodyear Blimp.

On the morning of the Shareholder's Meeting, I always watch the webcast just to see who is in my neighborhood.  The entire Shareholder's Meeting takes place 4.2 miles from my house.  This year, Celine Dion, Taylor Swift, Lionel Richie, The Zac Brown Band, Carrie Underwood, Aerosmith and Cheap Trick were all there.  4.2 miles from my house.

But those names all paled in comparison to the HOST of the Shareholder's Meeting this year.

Justin Timberlake.
I have a big old raging crush on sweet, sweet Justin Timberlake.
Oh lawsey, he's deee-vine! :D

(Have you ever seen the episode of Friends where they all make their "list"?  The "list" of celebrites that they can, well, you can guess what they can do........if they ever met them?  They decide it is okay to have a list since having your dream celebrity come into your life is pretty rare, right?  Let's just say that is safe to assume that Justin is "on my list."  Hubba Hubba.

So, guess who was 4.2 miles from MY HOUSE on Friday.  Justin Timeberlake!  RIGHT BY MY HOUSE.  In my neighborhood.  Great googely moogley.

Here he is standing 4.2 miles from MY HOUSE.  Granted, he is in one of his grubby scuffy times, but honey, I can clean him up - no worries.

I wonder if he likes garage sales or has a fetish for Vintage Christmas?????  Hmmmm....

  5. I had no idea about the WalMart event ... that's what I get for living so far from Arkansas. BTW, I heard the same thing about Justin and Pyrex. I just don't see a future for the two of you.
