What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day!
It dawned on me on Monday that I hadn't even put out my Mother's day things.  Luckily, I keep it all together, so I was able to find it and put it out just in the nick of time.
I did have a few new additions.  I bought that old scrapbook full of cards about a month ago.  I got all the cards pulled out and a lot of them were very sweet Mother's Day cards.  I love the way the card on the left has the same graphics as the print beside it.
I always add in my babies to the Mother's Day display.  Because you have to have had a baby in your life one way or the other to be a Mother and those babies are just too cute to NOT be on display somewhere.
The print is entitled "A Happy Busy Mother".  It was part of a set prints in my very own Flea market Booth, but when I noticed the title, I had to bring it home for a bit.  The big print is a typed out poem entitled, "What is a Mother?"  It must have taken forever to type it all out.  It was at the Super Cheap Thrift for a long time.  Then one day, it got moved to the FREE bin.  Free is good for me, so there it is.  You may think that "MAW" is what people from Arkansas call their Mother.  It isn't.  I promise.

It might not occur to everyone to but a block of butter in the Mother's day display.  But when it is "Mother's Favorite" you just have to put it in there.
There's that sweet MOTHER pin I found last weekend.
Those cups must have been popular at one time since I have found three of them.  Things used to be so sweet and lovely.
A gift from an 8 year old Bean.  Lots of love letters and reports about how his Mom is "priddy and funny and cooks me good food."  I even discovered a coupon for FREE dishwashing and FREE vacuuming that I never redeemed.  He helps me do these things every day, so I don't think I will ever need to use them.
A gift from a 16 year old Bean -  Picked out by HIM and purchased with his OWN money.  *Sniff.*

I love being his MOM.

Happy Mother's Day to YOU!

Love your "Mother" display. Very impressed you could find it so fast. You must have one heck of a storage area. Do share some time.
