What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Our Adventure

Thursday we went on an Adventure.

We went to Natural Falls, Oklahoma.

I almost put the skids on the adventure when I read this sign.  Can you make out painted out word in the middle?  SWINGING BRIDGE?  I don't DO swinging bridges.

Luckily we found out that it had been replaced with this all steel sturdy beaut.
Whew!
Adventure is back ON!

First we stood here on the bridge.

And looked down at the Lookout Point.

Then we went down to the Lookout Point:
Where we could see where we had just been.

We looked over the edge of the Lookout Point:
And saw the Natural Falls.

Then we read this sign:

 Decided we could handle it.
Then we climbed down a thousand stairs wondering if we really COULD handle it.
 Crossed a bridge.
And came to the bottom of the Falls.
Then we looked up to see The Lookout Point.
And even higher up to see the initial bridge we had crossed.

Then we looked at where we were!  Gorgeous!  It reminded me of the Fern Grotto in Hawaii.
Lush, beautiful and cool.

We reveled in the beauty and then we climbed up a thousand stairs.
Which, oddly enough was much easier than going down them in the first place.
We stopped to admire a massive rock formation that was black on the outside, but orange on the inside.
Apparently people actually had pencils on them to deface the rock with their initials.
Others had knives to carve their initials into the bench at the halfway mark.
Before we knew it, we were back up at the top looking down at where we had just been.
We watched these newlyweds have a make-out session down by the falls and then we were on our way.
It was a beautiful adventure!

(Dear Mumsie, I am sorry that I put your Grandson on that look out point.  I know you are scared of heights and that your groin hurts just looking at this photo.  He is safe, I promise!)
