What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Travelling Box O' Junk

Last week I mentioned having a Junk Swap. I had five people respond almost immediately, so I filled up a box with nine pounds of JUNK and sent it to Chris in Mississippi.

Chris already got it (Check out her blog to see what she kept), took her goodies and added some more and sent it to Beth in Virginia. (Check out Beth's blog to see what she kept and what she added. I cannot wait to get that box back to see what I get! I spy a lot of things I LOVE with my little eye...)

Now it's headed to Sue in New York, then over to Carol in Illinois, then it takes a long trip to Oregon to Laurie's before it comes back to me in Arkansas.

I just mailed it a week ago today and it's on teh way to the fourth person. Thanks ladies for picking and adding your junk so quickly!

Now, don't you wish you would have played along? I know you do!

  2. Hey Shara Missed out on that on purpose, but should have signed up anyway! Looks like too much fun and it's moving with lightning speed around the country!! I am having a big yard sale in 2 weeks and I was concerned that the box O' junk would somehow end up being swallowed by the mass amounts of cr...er junk...in my shed and work room. My husband's afraid to enter either place, and cannot wait till the 17th!!! Ha! Have fun, and a great weekend *elaine*
