What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Thank You Mother Nature!

Dear Mother Nature,

In a recent blog post I moaned and groaned about the non stop rain you were pelting down on us. I whined and I fussed. And, I wasn't very happy about the impending cold temperatures that are coming this weekend.

But today, you let the sun come out and shine all day long. That allowed me to finally get out of the house and see what you had done.

Yellow.

Orange.

Red.

Thank you Mother Nature for all the rain and even the cold. I understand now it all had a purpose. I promise I won't complain about the rain or the col again. It was all worth it!
*PS. I still don't understand that terrible awful ice storm last year though!*

  1. The colors here in Oregon are spectacular too. I am still delighted by Fall here, even after 15 years...Love your Halloween shelf and all those treasures. Stop by to see what is happening on my mantel! Your idea of the travelling junk box is so fab...if you do it again, I would love to be on the list!
