What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

I Wonder

I wonder if I had my Christmas stuff out the other eleven months of the year.....
would I still love it so much?
Would I look at it piece by piece?
Remembering where this came from and that one and that one.....
Would I love the colors, the sparkle, the glow?
Would it still make me so ding dang happy?
You know.....I think it would!

  8. I like pulling it out every year to swoon over and then like putting it away. I love it year round, but enjoy revisiting it each holiday season. Love the egg nog containers!

  9. I love all the vintage ornaments you have. But I could not stand to have it out all year, as it is I have to take it down as soon as possible. I've been known to take it down Christmas afternoon.

  11. I wonder the same thing! I open those boxes and sigh like I'm seeing what's inside for the first time. I'm not sure I would love it as much if I had it out all the time - there's something magical about things that only come out for part of the year. That is one stunning stash you've got there! p.s. I got my NOEL angels out today and thought of LEON ... OK, how crazy is that???
