What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Uh-Oh

I did a bad thing.

I bought another globe.

That's two in less than a month.

Uh-Oh.

One more and it's a bona fide collection

Uh-Oh.

I never even see globes and I certainly don't need another collection, but when I saw this awesome globe at the Super Cheap Thrift today, I had to have it.  Especially when I noticed the ubber modern Lucite base.  Not that I'm into modern stuff, but it just made it look cool.
But, what really makes it special is that it lights up!  Terrible photo, I know.  But, you can still appreciate the coolness of it, can't you?

I will not collect globes.  I will not collect globes.

  1. I Won't Either!!! I don't know what it is, but since last year I'm drawn to them and they're in my hands or in my cart before I know it. I've promised myself that I'll stop when I find an old light-up one. I bet that thing makes an awesome night light!

  3. I still have a globe my daughter got for christmas one year that lights up. This collection could take up some space.

  5. I would have bought that one too--the base is too cool! I bet you could throw it on Etsy and someone will snap it up, since it's such a decorating trend right now. It would be a pain to box, but the right price might make it worth it!

  6. So far I have avoided collecting globes but I hear them whisper to me when I see them. I love the one that lights up! I wonder if my Mom still has the one we had like that? hmmmm...when I visit in Nov it might just come home with me...but just that one...no others. Pinkie Swear!

  7. I've seen some really cool DIY projects with globes! Maybe you could satisfy your cravings, work on them, and then sell them on etsy?
