What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Some very sad news in Blogland - our fellow junker and blogger Elaine at Love2Junk lost her husband of 35 years yesterday.  He was in a terrible car accident a week ago and passed away a week later.  I know we cannot completely comfort her, but please leave her a comment. She is in my thoughts and prayers.

  1. Thank you for passing on this information. It allowed me to leave a comment with her, I hope it helps a little.

  2. I heard about this devastating news this morning. I was able to visit and leave her a message. I am with you and all other bloggers in sending prayers.

  3. Thank you for passing along this unfortunate news. I have left a comment.
I love the sense of community with the thrifty bloggers. Even if we don't "know" each other, there is real friendship out there and I'm sure that means a lot right now.
    You are a bright light.

I love my comments. I'd love to respond to everyone, but if you don't have an email address tied to your ID, please sign your name so I will know who you are! It makes it nice to know who is saying what. Now, leave a comment! Please? ;o)

I Can See You!
