What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

I Didn't Even Know It, Baby

I stopped into the biggest thrift in town today.  They have been making a lot of changes - some good - some not good.  They have expanded the sales floor to accommodate more merchandise.  The store has been awfully bare the past few weeks since the changes, but today it was chock a block full of stuff.  But, nothing really spoke to me or intrigued me.  It was all just sort of newer random things.  part of that might be because Lara was there yesterday and bought all the goodies.  I KID!

Several weeks ago several vintage baby planters showed up on the shelves.  Every week I pick them up and consider buying them.  But, baby planters are a hard sell.  But, man they are adorable!  Each week I left them behind.   But today - well, today - I bought them.  They had reached the 75% off price which made them 50¢ each.  That's cheap enough for me!

This sweet little *NEW BABY BUGGY plays music.  How about that little baby in the basket?

The opposite side features a lamb.

This one is my favorite.  It's the oldest one, too.

The details and the flowers are three dimensional.

This cute little crib with the cute little bear is, uh...cute. :)

Baby rattle and safety pin on the back side.

And my favorite - a beaded baby toy on the end.

Three makes a collection.

Uh Oh.

But, I already have these two.

And this one.

And this adorable one too.

Plus a couple more sitting her on my desk.

Huh.

I guess I collect baby planters.

Who knew!

  1. They are adorable and, if it is any consolation, that same thing happens to me sometimes! Who knew!

  2. I had the one with the 3D flowers in my basket the entire time I was at PH -- but I put it back. Now I know why I did! It was meant for you! That elephant? IS TO DIE FOR. Also, the pink scales. I have a hard time passing them up too...you should keep them.

  3. A few years ago, I bought a bunch of baby planters from Goodwill for dirt cheap. They were just too cute to leave. Boy, they aren't big sellers are they? Wonder why. Anyway, I ended up keeping a few of the cutest ones in case I ever get to throw a baby shower and the rest I sold at my garage sale for 5 times what I paid for them at the thrift. I have to restrain myself from buying them now. There are always some on the shelves no matter what thrift I go to.

  4. Love baby planters! I had a small collection that I let go of when I moved. I still love them but no room at the Inn!

  8. I have a hard time moving planters of all kinds. I will even shy away from a planter with a Madonna on it. Even they don't sell very well.
