What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Power To The People

First it rained.

Then the freezing rain started.

Then the sleet arrived.

A lot of sleet.

Then it stopped.

Then the snow started.

And it snowed.

And it snowed.
It's still snowing.  Right now it's about an inch an hour.  Forecast calls for the snow to end about midnight.

That's 11 hours away.

One inch and hour for eleven hours.

Plus the two inches already on the ground.

Plus the accumulated ice and snow under that.

Shazam!  That's deep!

But, we have power so it's okay by me.

The heat is on.  The X Games are on TV.  I think I will bake a cake.

All is well!

P.S Thanks for the kind blogposts.  And the email from Heidi early this morning.  And the phone call from Oliveoyl checking on me.  A blog friend that I have never even met - calling to check on me.  So sweet!

I love blogland!

And, I love POWER. :D

  1. Well thanks for the mention. I won't tell you how many TEXTS I tried sending BEFORE I realized it was your HOME PHONE and home phones DO NOT receive TEXTS. DOH!!!!!!!

After I talked to you our air mass changed and it got windier and colder. Cold and wind are NOT my friends, but I do have the sweetest never met in person friend in you.

  3. I'm so glad you guys still have power & that it wasn't as much of an ice storm as last year. Enjoy the snow. I'm definitely jealous about the snow totals though. We're only supposed to get 2-3 inches today. Not nearly enough, but hey, I'm just glad we're finally getting some more snow. It's been a few weeks! Ha!

    Stay warm!!

  4. Thinking of you. That is a lot of snow for you guys, but if power is on then you can stay cozy. My Dad lives in S. Indiana and says they had about 7 inches of snow overnight.
Stay safe if you have to drive anywhere!

  5. Hopefully your power stays on and you can keep cozy. Bake lots of goodies just in case! Be safe and don't go anywhere if you don't have to. Can't believe you are getting that much snow!!!

  6. We got about 7" in NE OK, very few power outages because there wasn't much ice. It's still cold & messy, I'm glad that you didn't have to go through power outages.
