What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Schnitzel With Noodles

No, this post is not a recipe for Schnitzel with Noodles. It is, however, a post about one of "My Favorite Things".I found this handmade window valance at the Salvation Army about ten years ago. It sat folded up on a shelf for about nine years. I always thought it was adorable, but it really didn't "fit" into my house. Then one day, I said, "Who cares if it doens't fit in???" and threw caution to the wind. I put it in my Office above the tan curtains. And, you know what? I love it. It is one of my favorite things. What good was it doing on a shelf in storage? Every day I see it and get a kick out of it.
The girls are wearing actual necklaces, earrings, bracelets and anklets. Someone put a lot of work into this silly little valance. And, I'm glad they did!

They all have embellishments of lace, ribbons, yarn, trim and bows. Their bare feet give me a giggle. If you click on a photo to enlarge it and happen to see any sort of dust bunnies...keep it to yourself, alrighty?

  2. Cute, cute, cute! I have the same thought process...who cares if it doesn't go! My house is done in "early attic" anyway so everything "goes"! LOL! Have a great day!

  3. THAT is WAY too cute to keep hidden away! Love it! But what about the schnitzel? And where are the noodles? All I can think about now is noodles!
