What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Haven't had a lot of baragins hunts to brag about lately. I am sure Iw ill find some Valentine's Day stuff when it goes to 90%. DH did surprise me this year with two cards, chocolates and two bouquets of flowers. I don't know what got into him!

I've been busy volunteering at the school working in the library. The libraian broke her hip and needs help. I like volunteering and being at school. ANd sheis vey nice and appreciative which really helps. Today is Teacher COnference Day which I always dread. It always goes okay, I just have this impending feeling of doom before hand.

We have a 15 year old kitty named Neilsen. He is failing and not doing well. It breaks my heart to watch him. He has quit eating and is sleeping most of the time. It is hard to watch. He has been a faithful kitty companion for many years.

Shara: I haven't left you a comment lately, but I do enjoy yours. I am sorry about your kitty. I lost a beloved dog one time and it broke my heart. They are just like little furbabies aren't they.

I was in a part of town the other day I never go to and saw the SA store and decided to drop in. They had 10 Hard Rock Cafe bears for sale for $1 each (they are $8-9 new). My daughter collects them so I bought all they had and put the doubles up for sale on ebay. Of those 4, one has already sold and the others all have watchers. I have had so much fun with the deal getting, my daughter's happiness and selling the other bears...what a lot of fun.

    Keep the deals going!

  2. That is great about the bears. I didn't think they would be collectible - or ebay-able. But, I don't think I have ever seen any. Thanks for the heads up! Didn't you post on YSQ that you have bidders in Canada for them?

Thanks for your nice words about our kitty. I can't think of much else than him right now. I am going thrifting in a little bit to clear my head. (And clutter my house!)

  3. {{hugs}} for you and your kitty. I lost my tabby last year, right after DS was born. She had been diagnosed with kidney failure three years earlier, so I felt very lucky to have another great three years with her.

  5. Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I miss him very much and I always will. We have three other cats, but he was our only one for 12 years until we "acquired" the other three after they showed up at the door.
