Friday as I was leaving Wal-Mart, the guy at the door asked to see my receipt. As he was looking it over, I glanced up at his name tag. and noticed it said ACPH. That struck me as unusual, so I asked him, "How do you pronounce your name?" He looked at me and very slowly said, "S-T-E-V-E-N". Apparently ACPH is his job title - Asset Protection Customer Host. You'd think I would feel dumb, but it cracked me up. Like for hours. I'm still chuckling. Steven. HA!
That kind of sums up my week. DUH I have been pricing all the things. I have touched so many things this week I am kind of numb from it all. I have an insane amount of stuff to take to The Junk Ranch this week. Having the 14 foot truck at my disposal has let me be able to take some bigger things and not have to cram it all in the car. I'll make it all fit in my booth, but it's going to be a chore! We can take all the stuff out on Wednesday, set up on Thursday, it starts Friday at 10:00, then 9:00 Saturday then we are DONE. I'm always sort of sad when it's all over. But, October is just around the corner, so I will start prepping for the next one before too much time has passed. It's kind of a sickness! But, a good one. :)
This years categories are:
Vintage Americana/Red, White, Blue, Road Trip, Camping, State Souvenirs. It's kind of a mish mash of an idea, but I HOPE I can make it work.
Ephemera: I always sell a lot of packs of BINGO cards, framed flashcards, Scrabble letters and Scrabble words. I fill in with old school stuff, little figurines and fun stuff.
Farmhouse: Egg crate box, old chicken coop, enamelware, a cubby, some old wooden stuff I have slapped white paint on and a slew of oil paintings. I have been on a painting buying streak. None are framed, which makes them good for placing on a shelf or a gallery wall. Hoping someone likes them because I have SO MANY!
Vintage baby & toys - old metal highchair, a dozen vintage baby quilts, tons of old squeaks and rattles, a few vintage baby outfits, vintage toys, vintage dolls.
Then there is just the weird random stuff that I accumulate. As you know.

A quick fun find this weekend. There is one church in my town that has an Odd's and Ends sale this time every year. No clothes, just stuff. For some reason, I didn't remember it this year until I saw it on Craigslist the morning it started. I got there around 11:00 and there was still a good amount of my kind of junk there. On the jewelry table there were baggies full of old bangles divided by colors. I realized there were a lot of baggies, so I grabbed a few. Then I realized that they were 10¢ bag, so I bought them all. In the end, I paid 90¢ for 100 bangles! Most are just old Dime Store bracelets. But, about 25 of them are bakelite! I need to test them, but I can usually tell it when I see it. What a deal! All that silly colorful plastic makes me happy! I don't even wear bracelets. I'm crazy!
Okay, I am off to bed and ready to fire it up and get this week DONE. So far the weather looks clear KNOCK WOOD although it will be hot. But, last June it was 100 degrees and this time it will be about 80, so that is a big difference. I'll have ice, cold water, sunscreen, an umbrella and a fan in my pocket. I CAN DO THIS.
I'll be back with a full report whether you want it or not. :D Follow me on Instagram and you will see tons of photos and I "might" even go live at some point. If there's time.....
Sounds like you are very organized! I always love your Junk Ranch posts! Oh those bangles would make Miss Scout a happy little girl.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Thanks for the chuckle and GOOD LUCK at the Junk Ranch!!!! Oh and surely you KNOW we'll want to read a very full report....after you've caught your breath of course ;)
ReplyDeleteYour Junk Ranch categories sound great - I can't wait to see the vintage Americana set up! And only you can find 100 bangles for 90 cents! And with bakelite as a bonus for crying out loud : )
ReplyDeleteI'm waiting for the epiphany that tells me to stop buying all this awesome junk but it hasn't come yet. Among the treasures this week were several bowls of colorful Pyrex - none were more than $4, most were $3 and $2. I also got two Equipto army green parts cabinets for a song. I really really want to keep them because they are just awesome but I'll put them in my booth.
There are just too many treasures out there!!! I wish I could take a month off from buying but I just can't do it. I feel like I'm missing something if I don't go out and hunt.
Back to the Junk Ranch - so try to take deep breaths this week and remind yourself that the Junk Ranch is FUN! A lot of work for sure, but fun work! All of us in office land would trade places with you any day. I'm getting excited - I can't wait to see the pictures on Instagram!!! I hope you sell it all!!!
