What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

The Weekend in Review

*First of all - thank you to all of you that posted what you are looking for when you are out junking whether it be at a Vintage Market, or a thrift store or a garage sale.  I usually look for the same things no matter what the venue - I just usually know that I can probably afford it a yard sale, I might be able to afford it at a thrift store and I probably won't be able to afford it at a Vintage Market.  I don't want to have the sort of booth where you go in and leave empty handed because it's all too priced high.  Why, oh why would anyone go to all that trouble, expense and work to just sit there and not sell but just a very few things?  I'm still hunting and gathering from my stash and I will start pricing later in the week.  I won't price it too low, but I sure won't price it too high!  Keep the suggestions coming - I think I have something for all of you (except maybe you, Eddie.  But if you were to come I would buy you a cupcake or something to make up for it!)

*Also, only three comments from my last post actually arrived in my email for me to read and to respond.  I check the blog a few times a day and I am always surprised that there are more comments than I knew about earlier.  Darn Blogspot - I don't know what is going on! I'm going to start using the Reply feature under the comments, but I really have no idea how that works - will it come to YOUR email?  Or will you have to come read it and if you have to do that, how will you KNOW I replied to your comment?  Hmmm. Those are very good questions.  Maybe I should look into that!  Until I figure it out - if you ask me a question come back and see if I replied, okay?  Thanks!

Okay, the weekend in review.  Friday I went out and straightened up the booth and stopped at a Church Sale on the way.  It's a small church and they don't get a ton donated, but I still like to go since it is truly still run by Little Old ladies that price things 5¢, 10¢ and 25¢. Another thing that I like is that they don't sell any clothing, so that cuts down on the clutter and the amount of stuff they have to display.  I don't go for clothes anyway - just STUFF.  I spend $2.40, and gave them three whole dollars which they thanked me for over and over.  Chill ladies - it's just 60¢.
The only thing worth mentioning is a red Lusterware silverware tray just like this one I bought last weekend.  Upon seeing this one last week, Erica said that all the Lusterware silverware trays must be in Arkansas at my house.  I thought that was an odd thing to say since I thought I only had a couple.  So, I decided to take a look around and LOOK WHAT I FOUND.

WHO KNEW?????

I actually only found the red ones at home.  The yellow one and the two green ones were in my booth, so I brought them home.  Now I just need to think of a use for them other than admiring them all stacked up and gorgeous.  ;)  I hope you find one soon, Erica!

Saturday was our Anniversary - 23 years.  The Breadman brought me home these flowers then took a nap, forgot to wake up until almost 7:00, ate the dinner that I cooked and then went to bed at 9:30.  So, let's just say it was one romantic day.  Not.  But, after 23 years, I think that might be a normal anniversary.  (And if it isn't - well, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF).
I occupied my time by making more book cover clipboards.  I have sold about a dozen of them in the last week, so I made FIFTY more.  I am crazy, I know.  I could have made a couple hundred, but I ran out of binder clips, I was getting a little goofy from the E6000 glue fumes and NO ONE needs hundreds of book cover clipboards! I used poker chips, old keys, milk caps, buttons, BINGO markers, Dominoes, checkers and other random junk on these so each one is different.  I also prepped and painted twenty JELLO molds toadstools. Crafty, crafty, crafty!

Today I cleaned out part of the garage, loaded up the car with donations and rounded up some more things for the sale.  I found a big box of baby clothes that I rescued out of a dumpster one day and spent too long looking through them only to put them right back in the garage.  Clothes, shoes, socks, the baby books, "Congratulations on the new baby" cards - everything all in one neat box.  Who could have ever gotten rid of that?  :(

*I found this old photo and made it my new Facebook profile pic.  You would be hard pressed to prove this is actually me because - I never wear dresses, I never sit with my legs crossed and I don't have blonde hair anymore.  But, I have to say, this picture is pretty darn cute.  It was on my 4th birthday at my Great Grandma's house (the one in the header photo).  One of my gifts that year was a wooden silverware chest with a complete set of metal silverware in it.  I loved that so much because it looked and felt like the real stuff.  Not plasticky kid silverware, but actual heavy metal forks and spoons and little butter knives.   When we moved to Arkansas, my Dad sold almost everything we owned (and I am not kidding about that) so we wouldn't have to bring anything with us.  I guess it got sold, because I don't remember ever having it in Arkansas.  Maybe I will find a set one day at a yard sale.

There's my weekend in review.  It was pretty boring to live through, so I bet it was way more boring to read about.  :D  So, thanks for sticking with me to the end!

  1. LOL! We have been married 39 years. On Wednesday's we go to our neighborhood pub for what passes as our "date night" and sometimes the flower guy comes in. I give The Husband a poke and point and he says, "what?, you want flowers?" and I give him the the look and WaLa - flowers! 8+)

  2. Happy Anniversary! It would be worth it to come to your stand just to take pictures and have fun conversation. No cupcake required.

  7. Hey, I have that weird comments not coming to my email thing too! I thought I had screwed something up on my blog. Again. It's probably only about 10% that never make it to my email, but it's just wacky enough to drive me nuts. And if you reply in the comment section here it does not send an email.

Anywho, my favorite shop to buy stuff from around here is a girl who's philosophy is that she wants stuff moving all the time. So stuff is priced to sell quickly, so she always has new stuff, so you stop by more often. I don't understand the people who price so high that they have to lug most of their stuff back home.
