What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Eureka! I am off to Topeka!

I'm off on a trip to the big city of Topeka, Kansas (Birthplace of ME).  I will return Monday night.  We are finally having a pseudo Memorial for my Grandmother.  She didn't want a funeral or a Memorial or even an Obituary.   So, we did abide by her wishes, but since it has been eight months, the family is going to get together for a few days, have a visit to the Cemetery and really just have some family time.  This will be a fun trip because I get to see both sides of my family - a big lunch on Friday with my Dad's side and the weekend with my Mom's side.

And, hopefully, if I am lucky a wee bit of thriftng and maybe a yard sale or two.  But, we'll see.

See you next week!

(Easter Egg Swap Post will post while I am away)
