We've all seen craptastic crafts at yard sales and thrift stores. Crafts that were "hot" for a few years like macrame and those crocheted beer can hats. Some of them go in and out of style, like the macrame. Others will never be in style, like ever - like the the beer can hat.
Back in the 80's I got into cross stitch. But, I didn't like those patterns with the forty five shades of green to make the grass with the nine hundred tulips on the borders. Usually I just made up my designs. Since it was the 80's a lot of my designs included DUCKS and GEESE and other country items. Eh gads.
This is the only cross stitch I still have left from back then. It's not on the wall - I swear. It's dated 1989, which I SUPPOSE makes it vintage. Eh gads again. How country cliche is this?
The true vintage lover in me says, "This has GOT TO GO!" But the person that made it all those years ago thinks she needs to keep it.
Plus, I am SURE that Country Geese will be all the rage one of these days soon.
AM I RIGHT?
Do you have nay craptastic crafts hiding in your closet?
That was right around the time that I thought painting on t-shirts was something that everyone wanted and would be thrilled to get-lol! I made everyone a painted t-shirt that year-ugh! What was I thinking!?! Maybe it was being young, newly married and having no money for real gifts-that's my story and I'm sticking to it! ;)
ReplyDeleteI have a lone cross stitch I did. Can't bear to toss it. Bright colors (surprise) but I don't think it has a goose or a duck. I followed a pattern..so not my cup of tea. My mom does them all the time.
ReplyDeleteOh yes I do! I did some cross stitch back in the day and it was 'country' themed and so much work I too hate to 'toss it'. Still I'm not sure those ducks will ever make it back to popularity! LOL>
ReplyDeleteI remember those ducks. They usually were found on things that said something like "welcome friends" - remember that? I think you should keep it. It looks like you put lots of work into it and who knows what tomorrows collectibles are going to be.

You need to keep it! Someday The Bean will get misty-eyed over it. :-)
ReplyDeleteCounty Geese! Oh, the HORROR! But I think you should keep it because a hundred years from now it will be called an "antique sampler" and someone will pay tons of money for it. PLUS it will be worth way more than the other "samplers" because its an original ONE OF A KIND design not from a kit! The Bean's kids will make millions on it! ;)

Oh, my. A duck with a handkerchief around its neck. Been there. Done that. I actually have a few pieces of cross stitch sitting here somewhere. They took so darn long to make I hate to just throw them out. I give it five years and ducks will be all the rage again!
ReplyDeleteThis is like a sampler that illustrates the 1980s perfectly! Yes, definitely keep it. It will become more attractive as the years go by. Actually, I really like the gum ball machine right now!
ReplyDeleteLately I've personally been feeling like my vintage ornament wreaths and wire-wrap seaglass jewelry fits perfectly into the CRAPTASTIC OLD-LADY NURSING HOME CRAFT category!!! (just ask my Nieces!!) I GOTTA get outta this house and get a LIFE, I'm SICK of WINTER!
ReplyDelete**SORRY ~ did not intend to offend anyone... just Vitamin C withdrawal 8-( !!
