I have been home since last Friday working on things for the BIG SALE. I have been hunting, gathering, pricing and working on displays. I have donated things and taken a load to the booth. Lots of things going OUT. (You know where this is going, right?) Today I had to go get bottled water and food for the weekend so I HAD to hit the thrift! Woohoo! It's a sickness, I tell you!
What is odd about my finds today is that they are SO not my usual kind of things!

Case in point: A vintage GAS MASK bag. Can you believe I bought that? It has a really long strap on it and I have been wanting some sort of cool crossbody bag to use when I go out junking. So, I'm toying with the idea of actually using it. Add some old tags and keys to it, maybe something slightly girly like a piece of vintage material on the top. I don't' know. Maybe I have officially gone over the edge.

Next inline: A vintage Pyrex 2500mg Flask. It's a doozy - HUGE! I thought chemistry and lab items were all collectible right now, but I'm not so sure.

Here are the markings on the flask. (As well as my fingerprint enlarge five gazillion percent!) Some more research is needed....
I also bought this metal box with a built in combination lock. The Bean cracked the code starting at 000 and it was 431, so it took him a bit. :) The box is a Policy Box from an insurance company to keep your policy in. But, you guessed that when I said, "Policy box" didn't you?
So, those are three very industrial manly things that I thrifted today! Lest you think I have lost my cutie pie touch...

Vintage baby cup with a sweet rattle handle for the baby collection and a handmade gingham puppy. Both scored for 25¢ each since they had reached the end of the color coded line at the thrift. Next stop? DUMPSTER! So, I rescued them. I would have bought that cup weeks ago at cull price if I had spotted it then. It's TOO CUTE!
Tomorrow I load the car, Thursday is set up, Friday is Early Shopper event, Saturday is event and tear down. Sunday is sleep until noon, take Tylenol and count my money day! :D

I passed up some lab glass at the flea last weekend, even though it was super, duper cheap. I have never looked at the resale prices, but there is a bit of a skeeve factor for me. I will buy from dealers I know (who will tell me where it came from), but not from random people. The meth head factor is just way too high. :/ Having said that, that one has an interesting shape.
ReplyDeleteI think the flask is a Pyrex® low form culture flask. They are 230 dollars new for a 2500 ml. There are a couple of them listed on ebay.
ReplyDeleteScience glass is popular in Halloween displays here abouts. But Nancy's comment about the cost would have made me drop my dentures if I had any. I had no idea. My daughter would definitely use the bag too.

I would SO use that vintage gas mask bag as a junkin' bag. Maybe add a feminine pattern material as a liner (so you don't tear the bag, if you load it down).
ReplyDeleteI think the flask is awesome! It's huge and makes a statement in a way that smaller ones just wouldn't. I would sell that for sure. I swear it's the type of thing you'd see in a spread in Country Living! The gas mask bag is cool too and I love your idea to girly it up--that sucker needs some lace and sparkles, stat! Very funky and cool--you can totally pull it off!

ReplyDeleteYour flask is too cool. There's a guy at Springfield flea market that has chemistry things and I swear he'd probably have $45 on that one. I picture it in someone's dark gray living room on the Restoration Hardware coffee table. I think your new shopping bag is great. Funky, yet fun. Just like you :)
