What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Grateful

Thank you for every one's sweet words to me on the last post. Blogger has been acting up, or maybe my email, or perhaps even both, but the comments weren't coming to my email. So, when I looked at the post and saw all the nice comments, it really made me feel good. So, thank you. I went to the Memorial Service today. I got to see my baby girl, the doctor and their Mom. There was a lot of people there, but I got to talk to them both and they were very grateful I was there. They were not doing good, but that is to be expected. It's just a sad, sad thing.

My mailbox has overflowed this week. Goodness from my sweet friend Heidi. This is the loveliness she bestowed up on me and this is what I sent her. Great minds think alike when it comes to trying to send your friend an Easter "surprise"! (Excuse my lack of photos myself as this week has not had me thinking clearly). Thank you Miss Heidi!

Also, every week at Two Dog Pond, the talented Rachel posts a funny vintage photo and everyone offers up ideas for a caption to fit the photo. At the end of the week, she picks a winner and sends them a beautiful soldered necklace with the photo on one side and the caption on the back.

Last week the photo was this:

When I saw this photo, the first thing that popped into my head was, "Who's the hoe now?" (Not the correct spelling of 'ho or hoe, but that's beside the point.) I don't know why this popped into my head or why I even had the nerve to actually post it, because it isn't very "nice"! But, it looks like he smarted off and called her a 'ho and she whipped him around and was teaching him a lesson. "Oh yea, who's the ho, NOW?" And, she looks like she is plowing the garden with him. Like a hoe.

Anyway, I suppose you have already figured out that:

I WON!

The note attached said it cracked her up.

It is a beautiful necklace and I love the vintage photo. I wore it today to the Memorial service because it was new and I wanted to enjoy it.

I got pretty nervous when someone grabbed it and said, "WOW! That's neat!" Luckily, they didn't turn it over. Now, that would have been difficult to explain! So, thank you Rachel! Now all of you - go win a beautiful necklace!

I've also been the lucky recipient of one of Elizabeth Holcombe's divine pincushions and a lovely Vintage Easter Swap from Joan. I am sorry that my post is lacking the photos of all these fabulous items. Bad blogger.

I hope everyone has a lovely Easter. Ours will be quiet - The Bean still likes to color eggs and make cupcakes. I am grateful for that, because I know that everything we do is important. I am grateful for him.

And grateful for all of YOU! Thanks again. And, Happy Easter!

  2. Hey Miss Shara! I've been away and am so happy I popped in today. Your last post brought tears to my eyes. I am so sorry for your loss. Even though we don't keep in touch with some people, they have touched our hearts at one time and are so very important to us. Please know I am thinking of you.
