What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Let's Go to the Booth!

So, like I said, I bit the bullet and took all my jewelry to the booth this weekend.  I had handled it so many times, that it was hard to leave it.  The Bean asked me how I was going to feel when people bought it at the Barn Sale and that made me think.  But, that will be different - I will see them pick it up and admire it and buy it.  I will know it went to a good home.  At the flea market, I don't know if it will be admired or stolen or torn apart or made fun of or what.
The day before I took it out I had the idea to paint the front of all those berry baskets with chalk paint so I could write on them.  Genius if I do say so myself.  I was going to make signs and couldn't think of a good way to attach them so this answered  all of those problems.  Then, literally, as I was getting into the car to leave to go to the booth, I went out to the shed in the backyard and grabbed that wire grate and a bag of clothespins.  I knew that the head was going to be tall and I needed to fill in that empty space.  I also found a template online to make signs that look like chalk on chalkboard and printed those out explaining what everything is - Bakelite, Catlin, etc.
When I originally bought this head, I thought I would use it to model a hat or something.  It works great for this purpose though.  I did get two calls from the flea market to see if I would sell her.  Uh, NO?

I put the feedsack pendants on a lower shelf along with the Bingo marker bobby pins and check bobby pins.  I love the feedsack pendants because I thought of the idea, figured out how to make it work and  they look good in the end.  I don't mean for that to sound egotistical.  It's just that I don't do tutorials or look up how to do things, I just figure them out.  And, I did!  I went to a big craft fair today and three different jewelry vendors asked ME about MY necklace.  So, I took that as a compliment.  Look at me all with the big head.....:)

The rest of the very crowded booth.  I have the very best lighting in the entire store with a giant florescent booth completely in my booth.  it is great for displaying and for shopping, but not so much for photographing.
It's pretty crowded since I had to clear off four shelves for the jewelry.  I cannot believe that stupid Merry Mushroom cookie jar is still there.  I hate that stuff and would like for it to be GONE.

My Razorback section - that head shouldn't be there though......  Now that I think about it, I don't think that giant mirror was there today.  Hey - that would be a nice sale.  That's a vintage picnic basket on the right.  Old hot hats, the required painted frames, a Hogopoly Game Board and a 1950's Tailgating Pendleton Blanket.

Wicker stool and matching mirror I spray painted.  I think it would go in a college apartment.  That house is something else - its really quite cute, but it has a purpose.  There is a light fixture inside with a nightlight bulb so the whole house lights up.  but, it has ANOTHER purpose - guess what - what would you put in a wooden box with a flaming light bulb?  Huh?  Huh?  If you guessed paper towels, you would be correct!  I think the house is sweet and without the light, it kind of looks like a decorative birdhouse to me.

Stuff, stuff and more stuff.  I thought that partyball would have sold by now too.

Blurry photo - pottery, dishes, glass bottles, costume jewelry.

View from the front.

Jewelry and ephemera section.
And lastly....

GIANT shoes.  Actual game worn Arkansas Razorback Football Cleats.  They would be great for a Razorback collector.  I think I will pull them and put them back on ebay now that football season is upon us.  Much to the delight of The Breadman.  And much to my dismay.

I hope you enjoyed your trip to Prairie Grove, Arkansas!  If there was a hotel, you could spend the night.  But there isn't, so hit the road!  You can all stay at my house!  Yea!

  5. I want to come stay at your house!! :) Think of the fun we could have!

I love your feedsack pendants and I think you most definitely should be proud of them. They're beautiful and unique and I love the one you gave me! I think putting the chalkpaint & descriptions of the contents of the boxes is really smart. I need to go do something like that tomorrow in my booth.

  6. Can't wait to hear about your sales. Your jewelry looks AMAZING. I am sad for you that you can't hear everyone going on and on about it, which I'm sure they're doing, but you will get that chance at the barn sale!
