What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Poor Pitiful Me Part Duex

Turns out it wasn't the stomach flu. I had a major gall bladder attack. I had to be taken to the Emergency Room on Sunday, had my Gall Bladder removed yesterday and a tube down my throat this morning to remove stones from my bile duct. I just got home at 6:00.

Don't ever let anyone tell Gall Bladder surgery "is no big deal" It's a big damn deal. I hurt big time and probably will for a week or more. No driving, no food, no fun. But, at least I am home and not in that hospital. Everyone treated me well, but last night, I had 20 interruptions while I attempted to sleep. I have been up since Sunday morning and I am really, really, really, really tired.

I'm off for bed for a very long while. Thanks for all the well wishes on my original Poor Pitiful Me Post. And, you didn't even know what was happening to me!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

  1. Oh Sharra, I feel for you! Been there, done that. It's not fun. It's not routine. And it can last a lot longer than they tell you. I'm glad that you didn't put it off like I did and ignore symptoms any longer. When the doctor says a few days recovery, multiply that. It might take you a while to get back to normal. Then you will have the "joy" of learning what you can eat. Or can't eat, most likely. You might have to make some major MAJOR changes. But now, even though you probably feel like crud, it's going to get better.

Wow, what an ordeal. Take good care. Let the boys look after you for the next couple weeks. In a while you'll be looking back on this as a nasty little blip in your life. Hope you get back to thrifting and all your favorite pursuits soon.

    Feel Better!

  4. Oh no! I've been in shoes and I agree, it's no fun. But, at least you know it won't be going on again.

Get lots of rest and take it easy and you will be back to yourself in no time.

    Hugs,

  5. Dear Ms. Monkeybox, aka Shara: You poor dear thing, my thoughts go out to you for a smooth and restful recovery. I only happened on your blog a month ago but have enjoyed it immensely; I look forward to when you're up and finding treasures again. Be good to yourself while healing and like LynnW expressed: "let 'the boys' look after you, serve you, wait on you and nurse you back to full, robust health!" We're all sending you 'be well and prosper' thoughts.

  13. I was getting ready to send the Cavalry to find you. You never go days without posting or emailing.

I have never had gall bladder issues, but have friends that have and I know it is painful and not fun. The hard part is over and the healing begins.

I know you are in good hands, Thanks Bean.

  20. Dear one I am so happy you got this taken care of quickly! I've been there MANY years ago, prior to the laproscopic method of removing that pesky little organ. BIG scar....2 weeks in the hospital....alot of other nasty things. You take care of yourself and know we're all thinking of you. Be good!

Hope you are feeling better soon. My Mom had that surgery not that long ago. She thought the recovery was worse than the surgery. But, she was so out of it post surgery I'm not sure she remembers all of it. I'll wait to hear what you have to say. Hurry back so I can lurk on your blog some more! :D

  26. I'm glad we have already chatted today and I know you are much much better but I had to leave you a comment regarding husbands not caring when you are sick. I think it just freaks them out! I mean, who will pick up the ditry socks they throw around for the dogs? Who will close the cabinets after they make them selves a bowl of cereal and grumble about a cold breakfast? Seriously. And of course, when THEY are sick it's like the world is ending. Here is my husband when he has a cold:

"Hon, (hack hack) I REALLY need some robotusin and chocolate chip cookies. And not Chips Ahy, REAL cookies. The kind you make. With butter. (hack hack) I'll just lay here on the sofa while you get to baking, okay?"

    Again, SERIOUSLY.

    Feel better, Goodness Sister!
