What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

It's My Birthday!

Yes, today is my birthday. I have decided not to concentrate on the actual number *cough* , but instead enjoy my family and all the nice things that go along with being the "Birthday Girl". The Bean is here with me all day, my Dad will be here this morning, my Mom and Step Dad will come over this afternoon and when DH gets home tonight, we will go out to eat. And, of course there's CAKE.

A hint: This is the birthYEAR, not the birthAGE.

I searched Google for sweet vintage Birthday graphics for this post, but I found these three instead which speak to me for different reasons.

Appropriate, right?

Love that birthday cake. And the corner piece is a must-have. It's only once a year, right???????

This one just spoke to me. Not sure why. Enjoy, ladies.

Anyone got a pin?

Oh God, I've turned into a dirty old lady.

I've had birthday niceness and gifts rolling in since August 1st, which I will share this weekend. I still can't believe the generosity and love that I have found in this blog and my blog friends. Thank you to all of you!
