What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

Come On Down!

We watch The Price Is Right every day over here.  I'm usually on target with most of the grocery prices, so I like those sort of games.  I hate PLINKO even though everyone wants to play it - "You could win up to $50,000!"  No, you are going to win $1,100. and not much more than that.  I would hate to play PLINKO or the golf game - they would have to name it a "Hole in 1 or 64" for me.  I like the Grocery Games and the Yodeling guy.

One of my friends from Jr. High sent me a message  - You might want to watch The Price is Right the Friday before the Superbowl.  So, I made sure my chores were done and I had a cup of coffee ready and I sat down to watch the show.

The third name up at the top of the show was my friend Johnny!  YAY!

He bid on an Xbox One and....he was the closest bidder!

He got to play Cover Up for a NEW CAR!
He got all but two numbers.
Looked to the audience for help and changed the 2 and the 3 to different numbers.

HE WON!

Whew!  I was exhausted and glad I could relax.

Then I remembered THE BIG WHEEL.

He spun and said "Hello to my folks back in Northwest Arkansas!"  (He lives in CA.)

He was the big winner on the wheel!

Time for the Showcase showdown.

The chick passed on the first Showcase.

A new living room set, THREE 5K TV's (It was the Superbowl show, remember!) and .......a BRAND NEW SUV.

He bid $29,500.
Feeling confident here.  (I like this picture the most)

Drew about to reveal the winner.

Excitement ensues!

HE WON!

An XBox One, living room set, three TV's, a car and an SUV.  $63,000.00 in prizes!

Shazam!

*Yes, he has to pay taxes on it, and who needs three 55" TV's and two brand new cars - BUT WHAT FUN it was!

Go Johnny! Go!

*I wanted to be on The Wheel of Fortune when I was younger.  I haven't watched it in years.  Do you have a favorite game show?  Have you ever been ON a game show????

  1. I love game shows! I don't watch them like I use too, but my oldest daughter wanted to be a game show host when she was a kid. We played 'Family Feud' when everyone came over at Christmas. She and I finally went to a taping of the show a few years ago when they were filming in Atlanta. It was so much fun. I've never been on one but was in the audience at least twice!

  2. My moms favorite show was Price is Right, whenever its on I think of her :) My good friend got to be on. She didn't win but had a blast. Also, when my twins were in middle school one of their teachers was on the PIR and won the biggest showcase showdown ever (at the time, may have been bigger since then) she won a Jaguar!

  4. I used to love that show when Bob Barker was kissing/sexually harassing everyone :) I don't know if I've seen it since Drew started. Is Johnny wearing an Arkansas jersey or an Ohio State one?

  5. I used to LOVE PiR as a kid and watched it every day in the summer when school was out. I even had a PiR birthday party when I turned 12! My clever mom came up with a bunch of party games based on the games in the show and we gave out $100,000 Grand candy bars as favors. So fun!

  6. How exciting to see someone you know win big on Price is Right. My dad loved that show and last year when he was in the hospital for 4 months, he had to watch it. They knew better than coming in his room during that time for treatments. LOL!

  7. Growing up PIR was at 5pm so I would watch it everyday after school! I learned to speak english repeating 'Come on down, you're the next contestant on the PIR! No I watch it once in a while when I'm not working....We also watched Jeopardy for years until we couldn't stand it anymore!

  8. I love the Price is Right but don't watch it much these days. I laughed at this post because just a few hours earlier I watched "How I met your mother" and Barney Stinson aka Neil Patrick Harris went onto the Price is Right to meet his father Bob Barker and takes home all the prizes. I'm glad your friend won. I couldn't imagine the excitement he must have felt.

  9. Love this post! My son (same age as The Bean) watched all the game shows when he was little and if you asked him what he wanted to be it was a game show host. Once when he was 5ish he came running into the kitchen in a panic because something happened to the show he was watching -- all the color disappeared! The show? Password, circa 1966. ;)

  10. How fun to see your friend win it all! Years ago,my sister chartered a bus for her 30th b'day and the load of us went to the price is right from San Diego. A girl in our group won a car and the showcase! We all got to storm the stage, it was so exciting! But the thing I remember most was the pre-show prep where they tell you all the do's and dont's about being a studio audience. Because Bob Barker was pretty old, we were warned, that if we were to be on stage, we could jump and yell and scream all we wanted but you weren't allowed to TOUCH BOB! They made the audience repeat, "DON'T TOUCH BOB!" to make sure we understood! LOL!
