Have you seen the SC Johnson commercial for Thanksgiving?
I love it. It is sweet. I imagine you can guess my favorite part.
The Gurley Candles!
Any true vintage lover has a pair of these in their Thanksgiving stash. (Or maybe a dozen or more pairs......) Here is one of my pairs. (I didn't even get my Thanksgiving stuff out this year - I missed it!)
Here are my Great Grandparents celebrating Thanksgiving in about 1960.
See waaaay over there on the far right? On the credenza? Gurley Pilgrim candles!
Ode to a Gurley.
I hope you all have a lovely Thanksgiving no matter how you are celebrating. It's just the three of us tomorrow, then a small dinner for my three parents and us on Saturday. I get to cook twice. Yay? I don't mind - Turkey is my favorite. Enjoy your meal and your day!
PS The Christmas totes are in the house. BRING IT!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Shara! Thanksgiving this year is at my brother-in-laws. I'm not a big fan. Ever seen Christmas Vacation? We are the Griswolds and they are the snooty next door neighbors Margo & Todd. Not even an exaggeration. We will probably have some fancy $300 turkey that doesn't even taste like turkey. And no Stove Top!! I think I may just stay home and use the "My dog just had surgery" excuse :-)

I love that commercial! I am a vintage lover but must admit to not having a set of those pilgrim gurley candles :( big dad face. I guess everyone has beat me to them at shops. We did have some when I was a kid. One of these days a pair will magically appear! LOL!! Wishing you and your family and wonderful day. It's just Mom and I this year so we aren't cooking but going out to eat! Works for me!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
I haven't seen that commercial but have heard about it. Watching it in a second. Have a wonderful holiday.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI have a request, can you please post more?
I absolutely love your page and I think I refresh twice a day to see if there is a new story.
I am absolutely addicted.
I kind of live vicariously through you, the sales you find are so amazing.
In Op Shops (Thrift stores) in Australia the cheapest thing I ever find is about $2.00... sometimes they have clothing items for $1.00 but... they aren´t very nice.
Whenever you get something for 25 cents I feel so envious... you have inspired me to fly to America haha, so I can go to Estate Sales, Flea Markets, Yard Sales and Thrift shops. I am hoping to have some luck! I will be staying in Arizona from Jan-April!
I have no idea why I feel compelled to tell you my life story! I apologise <3
But honestly this it the only blog I have ever read. It is my first bookmark on my bookmark tab.
You are amazing! Keep it up!

Lots of love!
... do thrift stores have black Friday sales too?
just a thought :)
Well, PrincessShezzy - You just MADE MY DAY! I love blogging, and I am still surprised that anyone reads it at all! :D Thrifts are lacking this time of year and yard sales are over - so I am more in the selling mode than the buying mode. It is more fun to write about buying treasures than it is to write about selling treasures. I am working on my Christmas decorations so there will be way, way, way more posts coming. More than anyone probably wants! :) Have fun on you trip tot he states - I hope you find treasures you can sneak in your bag! Thanks again! Shara
DeleteMaybe you need to come to Australia because it is prime Yard Sale time as it is SUMMER!
DeleteBut everyone here seems to know or think they know what everything is worth and charges around $5 per item.
If anything even looks slightly old it goes way up!
So then again, maybe don´t come lol.
Thank you so much for the mention in your newest post, that is so sweet and kind. You are wonderful!
I love how you do your set ups for each holiday season, I find it so exciting!
I think I have read your entire blog twice... So even if no one else was reading it, I read it twice... which is kind of like two people reading it... kind of. :)
You seem to have so much success with your sales, I am not sure about America but in Australia if you type in your area where you live on facebook they sometimes have community noticeboards for selling, that is where I have made around $2000 in a month or two clearing out the house a bit for my parents.
I find that a lot more people are on facebook and then they come pick it up from your house. It works better because people don´t have to search on ebay ¨That weird vintage thing I kind of liked one time¨ they just scroll through and buy on impulse. :) Just a little handy hint that might work for you too :)
-Lots of love from your loyal follower - haha
I love that commercial! It chokes me up every time I see it. I have those pilgrim candles, they were my mom's from my childhood. Such good memories.
ReplyDeletePS... I'm with the Princess. I love your blog and the only two I read are yours and Eddie's. I'm always checking for new posts!
