Thank you so much for all the comments and emails. It meant the world to me! I had several emails that couldn't find me and they were worried. That made me feel really good to know that, well, in the words of Sally Field..."You LIKE me! You really LIKE me!" :D Ok, now that we are all (mostly) here - let's get back to the matter of business....JUNK!
Saturday I left all by myself :) and headed out to sales. There were hundreds of ads on Craigslist. Every corner had signs on it. It was crazy. I only ended up going to about a dozen sales plus the Super Cheap Thrift and I didn't really end up buying much at all. It all seemed picked over and there was just so much random everyday stuff. I need OLD stuff people!
Now, part of the picked over part might be due to the fact that I stayed home on Friday and didn't even venture out. I stayed home and watched the Live Stream of the Wal-Mart Shareholders Meeting. It's just up the street from my house and it's always fun to see "who" shows up. This year - mind you this is right up the street from my house and I live in a tiny corner of Arkansas - Hugh Jackman, Jon Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson and Tom Cruise were there. Hugh hosted the event and Tom spoke - the rest performed. I would love to get in to the actual event, but you have to be a Shareholder. Boo. Anyway, I love watching it and envisioning Tom Cruise driving up the street or swinging into Popeye's for a Chicken and biscuit. (It could happen!).
Okay, on to the junk. Or the stuff. Or the goods. Whatever.
I picked up this nice black 16 x 20 frame for $1.00. I added a 1940's fashion watercolor that I had (I bought a artist pack full of about ten different fashion watercolors). Total cost about $1.50 and I'm pricing it $25.00. I think it's awesome. :) I don't even mind the watermarks on the matte. Hopefully, no one else will either.
I bought this lone wine glass for $1.00.
My favorite find of the week. A sweet PINK bunny girl pushing an egg wheelbarrow.
It's adorable as heck.
Oh, did I mention that wine glass is about a foot and a half tall?
I don't drink wine, but it would make one big ice cream sundae! I think I will put a bunch of my glass pendants in it and let people fish around in it.
A nice stack of Reader's Digest books which I promptly gutted and sent to the recycling bin. I found two identical orange books - one at a Church Sale and one at the Super Cheap Thrift. I spent $1.30 for all.
The book covers will be swiftly transformed into mini clipboards and sent to the booth.
I sell them for $4.00 each.
A cast iron London phone booth bank. It will go to the booth. Eddie mentioned that he didn't realize that I sold tings that weren't necessarily "vintage". I try to carry only vintage items, but I do look for and sell newer items that "could have been" vintage. Like this cast iron bank, Little Golden Books, sock monkeys, reproduction toys, etc. They still have the same look and fit in with my vintage goods.
At one sale, I pillaged through a jewelry box and pulled out a handful of things. The little girl behind the table was very excited because she got all the money from the jewelry box. Everything was 50¢ each and she totaled it up to $6.00. Her Dad told her to let me have it for $5.00 and she was not happy.
In that jewelry box I found a very tiny handmade doll and a wee tiny basket.
Two tiny gold filled charms - a Merry Christmas and a Happy Birthday. The backs are engraved 1963.
25 year and 26 year Alcoholics Anonymous Chips.
(Remember how I said a little girl was selling these things?)
A Esso Oil "Happy Motoring" tie clip and cufflink (I tried to find the set, but there was only one), Future Homemakers of America pin from 1963, some sort of wings which I need to investigate and a enameled egg that I didn't mean to buy. I guess I should have looked in my hand before I put everything on the table. Oh well.
This little gold pin just grabbed me by the heart strings. I have a few "Mother" pins, but I have never seen a "Baby" pin. Anyone have any ideas on this? I wonder in what circumstance you would need to stick a sharp pin through your babies clothing and have it only identify them as "BABY". It's truly sweet and I adore it.
*A little research and I think it is a Victorian Christening or Baptism pin.
Well, the pickings were kind of slim, but at least I did find a few goodies. Some things to keep, some things to sell. That's always a good day to me.

Thanks for the comment on my blog. I was indeed there, only on the other side and up in the upper tier. The moment was amazing and I am still glowing!
ReplyDeleteI missed your blog being gone - I was at a scrapbooking retreat and was good and actually worked on it so I wasn't cruising around like usual.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got it all back together!
Your finds while small are really neat - love the mini clip boards and the pink bunny planter! That big wine glass will be perfect for your pendants, too.
That Baby pin...I know that there is a particular 'craft' called French handsewing--they make these AMAZINGLY gorgeous and ornate antique-style dresses for little ones--and they use little gold bar pins to fasten the dresses rather than buttons or hooks. Maybe it was something like that? Hmm. curious!
ReplyDeleteLOVING those wings with the anchor...very cool!
Well your findings may have been few but they were awesome. I love the Baby pin and that sweet bunny girl..adorable!
ReplyDeleteI love little items, so I can only imagine the fun you had hunting for all that little stuff. I can also picture the little girl after being told to sell it all for five. I would have tried to find a way to slip her the extra buck. It still amazes me to see those Readers Digest book covers with the awesome designs. I never see any like that.
ReplyDeleteI love the framed fashion print! You found some nice little treasures. BTW, the wings are a Naval Aviator Badge.
ReplyDeleteShara,
ReplyDeleteI finally feel like I can contribute something here. In the past I have been Financial Officer of two separate Investment Clubs and Wal-mart was always a favorite. As a private citizen you can participate directly in Wal-marts stock purchase plan through Computershare. Just Google it or how to buy Wal-mart stock directly. It is 250.00 to start and a 20.00 set up fee. And that's really all. You can designate your dividends to be re-invested and that's free... and never put another penny into it and go the the annual meetings. Or you can contribute 25.00 a month for a small fee. Or set up an IRA for you or the Bean for his future. Anyway, you are young enough to do this and have it make a difference in your retirement...or at the very least, you can GO to the meetings! That would be great!
