Happy Christmas in July!
Our little family started celebrating Christmas in July last year as a diversion to all the BS that was going on in our lives. We need a break. A fun, silly thing to do that was just ours. So, Christmas in July was born.
This years theme was turquoise, fuchsia and peppermints. I made a felt banner garland for the tree and cut out some felt ornaments. Someday I will get industrious and actually pack up a Christmas in July supply box instead of winging it.
The theme and color selection was courtesy of this cake from Sam's that was our dessert. It is too hot to bake and the candy making supplies are in short supply this time of year. So, we had cake. And, really, what's better than a "birthday" cake when it's not even anyone's birthday!
Santa and the mini BBQ grill are always a part of Christmas in July. It's summer, baby!
Gifts consist of "stuff we have around the house" which this year consisted of tote bags, books, cookie mix and other miscellaneous items. My Mom gifted me our family Super Pickle and Super Hot Dog from when I was little. Christmas in July this year was only me, my mom and The Bean 'cause The Breadman just doesn't "get it". But, that's okay - we had fun and that's all that counts.
Happy Christmas in July to YOU!
i sometimes get annoyed when I hear Christmas in July...kind of an over done retail thing ya know? BUT...after reading your post I have to say I have had a change of heart...at least as far as your family celebration goes! Love the hot color combo you chose...the cake is great...but just the fact that your family has a fun time celebrating is what it's all about!! :o} *e* ps...when does Santa get a change of clothes? he needs surf shorts...a tank top...and flip flops! :o}
ReplyDeleteI think it is fun and my family wouldn't get it either they would think I was being my overdone christmas self and stretching it out.

ReplyDeleteI completely missed your Holiday! I should have had a package off to you days ago (maybe a nice box of scarves, with a little something special in the bottom??!)
We're back to 60deg nights and 80deg days and that is cause for celebration in my book!!!!
HAPPY 7-25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the idea of Christmas in July! Now that is a way to try to ignore the heat!
ReplyDeleteI lol'ed when I read "The Breadman doesn't get it". I think it's a fun idea. Plus next month you can do a back to school tree, Fall tree, turkey tree and then so on and so on.
ReplyDeleteI celebrate Christmas everyday.

Happy Belated Christmas in July!
ReplyDeleteNow, I can say that I am as late with that as I am with every other holiday!
