What is a monkeybox?

When I was a little girl, we had a pet monkey named Amanda. My Dad worked in the produce business, so each night he brought home that days culls in a big box - spotty cucumbers, pithy apples, limp celery, moldy oranges and the like. We called it a monkeybox. It was really just trash, but my Mom would take each piece of fruit and trim it, pare it and cut it up to make a beautiful fruit platter for Amanda. Even though it was deemed trash by one, it still had life left in it and was good for the purpose we needed it. That's how I live my life - thrifting, yard saling, looking for another's trash to be my treasure.

About Me

This is my blog and I write from my heart with a sense of humor.  I will never do tutorials or recipes or pretend that I know how to do something that no one else knows how to do.  I'm just me being me.  Thanks for the love from the people that get that.

My name is Shara. Rhymes with Farrah.  (I'm a child of the 70's, so that is my reference). I live in NW Arkansas where there are lots of beautiful things to see and do.  I love all things vintage and am always on the hunt for one more thing.  I love vintage holiday items with Christmas being my particular weak point.  I have an abundance of art pottery, vintage tablecloths and Redman picnic baskets, all scored from thrift stores and yard sales.  I'm always telling my son, aka The Bean, what my things are worth so that some day he won't sell it all off for 25¢ like the people did where I acquired it all!

The Bean  is my thrifting partner.  He has a good eye for things I like and has amassed some collections of his own while thrifting.  He used to like PEZ Dispensers and key chains. Now he has grown into knives and books.  SO MANY books.

I have a Flea Market Booth booth in a small country town that is known statewide as a Flea Market Antique Store haven. People go to the Main Street of this town specifically to buy things - money in hand and ready to shop.  College girls are a favorite customer.  They have deep pockets and a love of upcycled and shabby decor like old shutters, chalkboards and painted frames.  I don't know where they get their money.  In college, I had concrete blocks and 2 x 4's in my apartment.  I also have a small booth just block from the U of A campus in Fayetteville with my partner in crime, Lara  Our main clientele there is, oddly enough, college boys.

As if that weren't enough - I am a proud supporter and Vendor at The Junk Ranch.  Twice a year - Spring and Fall.  Come and see me under the ONLY tree in the PINK tent.

I'm married to The Breadman who works 15-16 hours a day.  I rarely see him and when I do, he is generally asleep.  On his days off, I drag him to thrift stores where he only seems to shop for pants.  I don't know why.  His first love in life is Arkansas Razorback Football.  Seriously.

I love junking, but I really enjoy the journey along the way.  Northwest Arkansas is a beautiful place full of mountains and trees, lakes and valleys.  Old junk along the way makes for a fun day out. What will I find and what will I see?  Come back to monkeybox to see!

*Those are my Great Grandparents up there. My Great Grandma was the original Martha Stewart. She threw a great party and decorated for every holiday. I want to be her when I grow up. Oh wait! I am!
