Thursday's Thrifty Things

I got up this morning and had a mad, overwhelming desire to go to the Super Cheap Thrift Store. We didn't get there until 45 minutes before it closed, but we still had time to look around. And, there were TWO Thursday Yard sale signs on the same corner as the thrift. So, it was worth the time and gas.

The thing, for me anyway, about the Super Cheap Thrift is all the ladies that volunteer there know me and greet me and ask me what I did with certain things I have bought in the past and they are all friendly and nice. And, for this non-working, no longer volunteering, stay at home homeschooling gal with a husband that works 90 hours a week, that,my friends, is social time!

I got this beaded safety pin basket at the thrift for 50¢. Now, I don't want to offend anyone, but I think these thigs are hideous. Hid E. Ous. Pitiful. Terrible. Ugly. But, people like them and they do sell on ebay for between $12.00-$25.00. Who am I to pass up $20.00 profit?

Also, destined for resell is a Department 56 Snow Village Pisa Pizza Parolor from 1995. Looks like it sells for between $10.00 and $50.00 on ebay. Not sure why there is such a range in prices, but I will find out and market mine towards the $50.00 crowd you can bet that! (I forgot to take a picutre! Doh!)

Here's a montage of goodies - the old graniteware tray is small, about 6" x 4". It was 50¢ at a yard sale. Everything on it came from the thrift. That's a Bakelite brangle (25¢) in the lower right corner. The beaded necklace (75¢) is silver with embedded stone - I think turquoise, but it needs a good cleaning. The leaf earrings (20¢) in the bangle are marked Lisner, the other three pairs (20¢ each) are not marked, but are good swap/crafting fodder. The little box (25¢) is handmade with shells on the outside and old journal paper on the outside. Looks like something I could make.....
I found this outside a building as I was leaving a yard sale. It is an old metal stool. It is very sturdy and just what I have been looking for to put in the kitchen. I often stand at the kitchen counter paying bills, wrapping pages, writing letters (yes, I still write an occassional letter) and covering things with glitter. Sometimes I think "I would like to sit down!" but chairs are too low. This is just right. I've already painted it white, but plan on repainting it Martha Stewart minty green before too long. It was $4.00.
This is an old Strawberry Fruit Jam tin. It is less rusty on the other side, not sure how I managed to take a photo of the worng dern side! Anyway, it was only 50¢ and still had enough coolness in it to warrant buying it. Well, in my eyes anyway.

Here's the top of the old stool. Cool ventilation holes, eh? I got the yellow ruler today for $1.50 and I got the other one a week ago for $1.00. They are getting harder to find, so when I see them cheap, I snap them up.
And, now for my slightly creepy but cool finds. I've been finding these retor vintgae dollheads at two different thrifts over the past two weeks. I have a grand total of $3.10 invested in all of them. Love the cat eye glases! (Yea, that's my foot.)
I really do like these old faces. I will be putting these on Etsy one of these days. I SWEAR! I think they would be fute with the party hats and old photo background like everyone is making lately.

Tomorrow starts a busy week. Tomorrow night The Bean and I are going to see Beakman Live!. He's a mad scientist that blows things up and does wacky scientific things. Ought to be fun. I got seats in the balcony, because rumor has it, it can get messy. If we get messy in the balcony, heaven help those down below.

Saturday I have to get us packed and ready for a mini vacation.

Sunday is Mother's Day where I will be bombarded with flowers, gifts and breakfast in bed. har-dee-har-har.

Monday is DH's birthday. And he starts a week long vacation. ('Nough said). And we leave for our trip.

We will be back Wendesday night which will lead to unpacking and laundry. It is amazing how much STUFF you have to take "just in case!".

I had NO CLUE those nasty safety pin thangs were hot!! I can remember sitting at Sr. Citizens with my Grandmother while they made them!! Even in 2nd grade they made me gag (or maybe that was all of the old lady 'Toilette Water'?). I still have the one she made me in Purples - it's buried deep, deep, deep - but I have never been able to bring myself to part with it... not even now.

  3. that is one crisp white sock I spy in that creepy doll head picture :-) I like the metal stool. I think it will be very good for putting glitter on stuff, you should start by putting glitter on it :-) I've started selling some of my finds on ebay too, i'm crossing my fingers! I wish I had a cheap thrift store to go to, you're so lucky!!

i wonder if the vent holes in the stool would be of any use if you had bad gas?? sorry if that's gross, just my first thought!

the doll heads creep me out!

there will be a sale down the way from me tomorrow. i drove by today while they were setting up the sale starts tomorrow at 8 sharp, so i will probably get there at 7:30!

i stopped by on the premise of seeing what time they were having it, but my eyes were scanning the merchandise. i spotted what looks like 2 bags of vintagey-looking christmas stuff, looked like there might be some knee-huggers in there. will keep you posted!
