A Few Fun Finds: Coffee Dahling?

Last week I bought these great old flash cards on ebay.  I am going to have them at the Barn Sale and then in Etsy.

 They are really big - 11" x 14".
 And from 1966-1968.
They have great graphics, don't you think?
I think the Nurse one would be great in a School Nurse's Office.
And, who doesn't need a QUEEN Flashcard?
I did get V, W, X, Y and Z but apparently, I forgot to "save" that collage on my phone.  The "T" was missing, so I have 25 in all.  Of course, you know, me I love the Jack O'Lantern, Witch and Valentine.  And, I'm leaning towards the Indian one too.  So, that might only leave me 22 to sell.

Monday I stopped back my the Animal Shelter Sale when I saw the HALF PRICE sign.  It was supposed to be over on Saturday and not even be open on Sunday, let alone Monday.  Had I known it was half price, I would have hightailed it over there!  I had my eye on two items all weekend (I was there four times) - an Irmi Lamp and a YELLOW Redmon Picnic basket. The lamp was $18.00, the picnic basket $15.00.  Too rich for my cheap blood.  Of course, late in the day of the half price sale, neither item was to be found.  I picked up some more books (I know, I know) and a couple other things and paid for them.  When I was turning around to leave, I saw that the Irmi lamp was holding up the HALF PRICE sign on the counter.

I asked about it and the very nice lady told me that a sudden rain storm had come up  and blown it off the counter, breaking the lampshade.  She didn't think anyone would want it anymore, so she was using it for the sign.  Since I got so excited to see it, that blew my cover of not caring if I bought it or not, so she quoted me $5.00.  That was better than $18.00 and better than half price, so I bought it.  I have five Irmi lamps now and not one of them has a shade.
 Sweet little chubby Irmi girl.
And her jaunty little wiener dog.

I did ask about the picnic basket and it had sold.  I really should have bit the bullet on that one - I've never seen a yellow Redmon picnic basket!

*I mentioned that while at the Animal Rummage Sale I had bought Raffle Tickets.  Well, they called today and I won a Gift Certificate to some schmancy hair saloon and a big gift basket full of schmancy shampoos and such.  Then they called right back to say that The Bean had won a one hour rock climbing lesson for ten people that includes an Instructor.  That has to be pricey!  He doesn't want to go rock climbing, so I am hoping we can trade it or sell it on Craigslist.  In any way, it was fun to win!

Okay last story.  Today I had a tub of random items to drop off at Goodwill.  We were going to eat and it was still the noon hour, so we went in to kill a few minutes.  I took a quick walk around and really didn't find much.  Then, I hit the kitchen aisle.
I spotted those gorgeous red Bakelite handles first and I ran to grab it.  But, I knew it would be priced sky high.  Yet, I picked it up.
Keystone red Bakelite handled creamer.  $1.00

Keystone red Bakelite handled Sugar Bowl (no lid) $1.00

Keystone Red Bakelite handled Perculator - $5.00.
Look at those sexy red handles.  I die.
And the red lever.  Gorgeous!

What's worse than seeing your reflection in a photo?  Seeing TWO!

$7.00 for the set.  I still can't believe it was sitting out on the shelf like that and for so little money.

I just feel proud to own it for awhile.

  2. CONGRATS on winning at the Anim. Shelter!! That is ALWAYS fun, regardless of the useless/lame prize - though in YOUR case it sounds like a luxurious splurge ;-)!!
(and when you find out how to take 'non-reflecting' photos, let me know ~ okay?!)

  4. Getting to pay thrift store prices at the thrift store doesn't happen very often anymore but when it does, it puts a HUGE smile on my face :-)

    That set is gorgeous!

  5. Holy crap, the handles on that coffee pot! I would want to just sit and caress them lovingly, like the dad does with the leg lamp on A Christmas Story. :D GORGEOUS.

I can't believe you can stand to sell the Jack o Lantern flashcard! I couldn't! Those are awesome and I'm sure they'll be good sellers.

  7. (Sorry -- wrote "they're" for "their" and couldn't bear to let it stand!!)

I can't believe you can stand to sell any of those cards-- they're all so gorgeous. I was JUST IN that Goodwill (I'm assuming on MLK) and though there were a few things I would have liked to have had, they were all priced too high, so I'm glad you found something so utterly awesome at such a great price. Really, their prices make me ANGRY every time I go in there. There was a cool set of wire deer heads and a really old iron plant stand there last night -- did you see those?

  8. so is the silver set a keeper, booth, barn sale or Ebay fodder? Our GW would have had that baby locked up in the bid case for sure.
