Dang!

This weekend is the biggest and best yard sale weekend of the year.  There is a big festival a few miles up the road and everyone has yard sales along the highway.  I have brought home epic amounts of goodies in the past.  Prices are sometimes a bit more than usual because so many tourists come through.  But, I generally still find some goodies that I can afford.

I was mapping out my route tomorrow when I saw a "DANG BIG YARD SALE" advertised on Craigslist that said to "FOLLOW THE DANG PINK SIGNS" and it started today.  Off I went!  When I got there, I actually recognized the ladies having the sale.  They used to live not far from me and have sales a few times a year.  I always loved their junk and them!  Nice ladies.  But, they sold the house and disappeared.  This sale ended up being at their new house.

The sale really was a DANG BIG SALE.  Lots and lots of stuff.  Lots of dressers, bookshelves, bed frames, stuff, junk and miscellaneous.  I asked them where they got so much stuff this time.  The lady told me that her husband started cleaning out foreclosed houses.  They bring home all the stuff, sell what is worth money and trash the junk.  Finally - someone using their heads!  I'm starting to think that this is a heck of a business to think about.

Since everything was FREE to them, the prices were seriously cheap.  Seriously.

This shelf was $1.00.  The shelves have rounded bottoms for something specific, but I don't know what....we tried golf balls, but that wasn't it.  Besides, the shelf seems older than the fad of collecting golf balls anyway.

Top Shelf:  Old restaurant China cup and saucer, a frog ewer and a milk glass jar with flowers on it.
2nd shelf:  Two restaurant ware custard cups
3rd Shelf:  A dozen handmade strawberry pincushions
4th Shelf:   Four wee glass bottles with corks
Tabletop:  Handpainted porcelain plate, Metal Trivet "God Bless Our Mortgaged Home" and a box Uniform Buttons and pins for Marine Dress Blues.

Would you look at those babies?????  I've never seen photos like these and I adore them.  Too darn cute.  Plus, a very old skateboard and an old suitcase.
A very old Religious Print.  I felt very Vintage Rescue Squad when I spotted this print!  The white frame has some sweet aqua paint showing through the chippy old white paint.  I'm going to put it in the booth, but if it doesn't sell before long, that frame is MINE!

They had a ton of old plates and cups.  Everything was 5/$1.00.  I love all these pretty old plates.

Most everything is destined for the booth or for Etsy.  I'm keeping the trivet (I collect those), the four tiny glass bottles and the milk glass jar.  Speaking of which, does anyone know what those jars are from?  I have about eight of them now, and I just love them.  I'd love to find some sort of lid that would fit them.  Until then, they make great vases for daisies.  That oddball shelf will kick around he house for awhile until I figure out a good use for it.  I think I have an idea for another one of my unmentioned collections.  I'll have to hunt them up and see if it works.

I'm looking forward to a good morning of sales tomorrow.  Although it is pouring rain this very minute.  Not a good sign the night before yard sale day!

(Thanks again for all the love.  Read the next post if you  missed it).

  4. Those plates look like Blue Ridge~ Southern Potteries, which sometimes does pretty decent... you might want to check out the patterns before you price it for your booth.

    NICE Haul!
