Fireworks

I do not like fireworks. I like to go to the big display and enjoy the ones being put on by professionals. But, I do not like the ones you buy at the roadside stands. I don't know if they are going to go left, right, up or across. Towards the sky or towards my head. (This might have something to do with the 4th of July night that a metal tipped bottle rocket flew into my Mom's foot and she nearly lost her foot).

But, I live with a 14 year old boy and he thinks they are "cool" and "neat" so I indulge him a bit.  Luckily, he isn't into the big stuff  - just some small ones.  Our neighbors are blowing off enough firepower to take out the neighborhood anyway.  Hey, maybe one of you know - they set this bag up earlier - it looked like a white trash bag with fire in it.  It just floated up and into the sky and disappeared over the hay field.  I have never seen anything like it and honestly, it seemed like a really bad idea in my opinion.  Any ideas as to what on earth that thing was????
Here is one of the things that The Bean bought.  I thought it was entirely too darn cute to explode.  (He's a goner now).

Hope everyone had a good 4th of July.

We did.  But, I'm glad it's over.

  1. Just what is it about those 14 year old boys? I have one too. And we had the very same scenerio at our house. lol

I too had a bad experience with firecrackers. When I was a child, someone accidently threw some of those ladyfingers toward me. They went inside my parka and exploded. Its a miracle I did not have any hearing loss or burns. I do remember my mama sewing up all the little holes that were on the inside of the jacket. Ahh the memories.

  2. I had a couple firecracker incidents myself. I remember something about stomping on one and making it go off. Only it shot up my pants leg and burned my ankle. Still have that scar! Also someone threw one right by my head and it went off right by my ear and I lost my hearing for the day. Despite all that, I still love fireworks, and it's my favorite holiday!

  3. Shara,
I live with a 10 year old boy who LOVES things that explode and make deafening noise. Me? Last night I watched the show from inside the house and snuck another piece of berry pie.

  4. I agree with you....I have never liked the neighborhood shows....fireworks are illegal in AZ so I am pretty safe, although we always hear a few.....that one you got was soo cute, when I first saw the photo I thought maybe you had made it! LOL My dog also goes crazy with thunder or booms so the 4th is a very stressful night for her!

  5. Fireworks are illegal here in Mass. too, but people always bring them down from New Hampshire (aka the "Live free AND die" state).
Could your neighbors have made a fire balloon? I've never seen one but the dad makes one in "Danny, Champion of the World" (Roald Dahl book).
