Christmas Crafting

Only I would still be cranking out the Christmas crafts on New Years Day. I had seen this on
Miss Heidi's blog and knew I needed one. Now. I'm loving the whole glittery cake on a plate thing.

When I was Hobby Lobby for the 66% off discount, I found a box and a house for little to nothing. I had a plain box in my cart from the back of the store, but then I spotted one with embossed reindeer running around the side for 66% off in the Christmas section. Once I painted it and glittered it, you can't even see the reindeer at all. So, that saved me from spending $3.99 and only spending $1.33 (Thanks Queen of Fifty Cents for pointing out that 66% off is merely 1/3 of Retail. Doh!). The little house was $1.99, so I paid 66¢ for it.
It's not as fru-fru as Miss Heidi's, but I will take care of that next year. I will have my eyes peeled for tinsel garland an pompom fringe to bedeck and bedazzle it a bit more.

I think the door needs a little sumpin'-sumpin' too, but not sure what. Maybe a little sign with some color. Anyway, it's made so next year I will have it and be able to doctor it up a bit and not try to remember to make it in it's entirety. Notice the little toadstools I added for some color. Toadstools seem to be all the rage right now.

I've shown these in the past, but it's worth another mention to all the toadstool lovers out there. I saw these in Family Fun Magazine about five or six years ago. They are super easy to make and look so cute in the yard. I found the metal mixing bowls at Deals for $1.00 each, but if you keep your eyes open, you can find them at yard sales and the thrifts.

All you do is spray paint metal mixing bowls red, then add the white polka dots for the toadstool look. Then screw the metal bowls onto a piece of stump. They are heavy enough that they sit up on their own, but you could drive them into the ground with a stake in the bottom. In the magazine they had made HUGE ones out of industrial sized bowls and massive stumps. They had little kids sitting on them and it was so freakin' cute! This is an older photo of them. Now they are along the fence with a little gnome dude sitting under them. I loves 'em!

  3. I love your little house! I made mine with a kit that I bought in 2007 from Holly Doodle Designs, but I just finally got around to making it this year. It was really fun! The only thing I don't love is that the Mod Podge I used to glue on the snow was yellowish and didn't dry clear, giving the impression of yellow snow! LOL I'm hoping it just looks AGED. ;)

Now I'm trying to figure out where in the heck I'm going to store it until next year so it doesn't get squashed.

  6. You are WAY TOO motivated!! I finally finished hauling the last of my Xmas totes up to the attic yesterday, and was patting myself on the back for that! The thought of being 'productive' hasn't even crossed my mind in days!!

  7. How about a little gold or silver jingle bell for a door knob? They've got some shiny stuff (tinsel and fringy stuff) left at Wal Mart for 80% off! I stocked up for never to be done projects!
