Crucio!

It's all about Harry Potter at my house this week. DS knows the movie comes out on Wednesday and he is dying to see it. And, so am I. I love Harry Potter too. But, we are only halfway through the book and I really do not want to see the movie without having read the entire book. Today he got out all his books and all the DVD's and lined them up on the coffee table. Then he got a notebook and a pen and did all sorts of interesting things. He counted the books (not too hard) then he looked up the number of pages in each book and added them up (over 3,300 pages so far). Now he's in the process of counting the words on a page in each book and tallying up how many words would be in each book and in total. As long as he is using a book, pen, paper and a calculator, I consider it to be educational.

Does anyone have any idea why I cannot seem to put a title on blogger anymore???? (It is driving me positively batty!!!) I finally figured out how to make a customized header and now I cannot manage to title my posts. Bah humbug, Blogger.

I have a humdinger of a sore throat and I have had it for nearly a week. Is there some sort of a virus or a bug going around that I don't know about? I usually get sick and get well and never know that everyone else in the world has had the crud too.

I see that this is my 300th post. My, I am a long winded one, aren't I? What shall I do to commerate this occassion? Let's see - a giveaway, I suppose. But, what shall I give away? How about a package of goodies from my area? Things that represent NWA. Wal-Mart home offices, Tyson World Hedquarters, Hannah's Candles (of QVC Valerie's candles), JB Hunt Transportation and the now defunct Valorie's Home Accents are all from my area - within a few miles, actually. I'll make it fun stuff that you will want and or need, I promise. So, leave a comment by Sunday, July 15 and I'll throw your name in the sorting hat and let my own Harry Potter draw out the magical name.

P.S. If you don't happen to like or approve of Harry Potter, please don't take this post out on me. It is make believe and good fun and has been terribly helpful in getting children to love books and reading. I once mentioned Harry Potter to a 1st grade class that I was substitute teaching and a 6 year old boy wagged his finger in my face and said, "Oooo, you are going to hell. The devil made Harry Potter." Now really, who told this litle boy such rubbish? He wasn't old enough to even understand the devil and hell, let alone to be condeming me to hell.

P.P.S. Rant over. ;o)

Ohh, ohh, I get to be first! Yipee!! I love Harry Potter! My brother in law introduced me to the books when he was working on the first movie. Yep that's right! My bro in law is in computer special effects and he worked on the first Harry Potter movie. I got to see it in progress. I got to see how they made the Quidditch (sp?) match. Very cool!!!! I have gotten to see the "behind the scenes" a few movies, very fun! I love your giveaways, Shara. I have shared my last one with my son, my mom, my nana, my brother and my teacher friend!!! Sharing goes around and around.

  2. No finger wagging from me.

We have an I-max theatre close by that will have a midnight showing of HP, guessing it will be 12:01 a.m. on Tues. My old body will not make that showing.

I agree w/you on that little boy. He is NOT old enough to make his own judgements, someone has filled his head with that garbage.

Not sure what is going on w/blogger, but others are having issues too. One blog I read you had to scroll about 20 times between paragraphs. She couldn't fix it.

Kids only repeat what they hear (for the most part...). HOW could anyone say those things in front of, or even worse, 'to' a child??!? Happy 300th! Hope there are 300 more! How long has it taken you to do 300?

  4. Yay, 300 posts!! Amazing! I'm a infrequent commenter but everyday reader! :) I've tried to blog and I just don't make the time for it....so it's so cool you've been able to keep it up for so long.

I'm not a Harry Potter fan, and I'm a Christian, but who am *I* to say what's 'wrong' to watch!??! It's a fantasy, I don't know what's wrong with it....

    Love the new header :)

  6. The title thing is a bug that blogger has yet to fix. You can still add the title if you hover your mouse at the very tip top of the title box, pointing at the line. The cursor should appear then.

And I am all in for goodies!

  7. Just found your blog from Heidi's. I love your thrifty finds from your previous post, especially those pins. I'm a pin freak, and just received 2 new ones for my birthday. visit my blog to see pics of them.
Sorry, but I don't like HP, not because I think it's evil, but I just think it's dumb. But I do love, love, love Little House on the Prairie and have secretly wished I could live in Laura Ingall's time.
Congrats on your 300th post. I've just started blogging, so I have a very loooonnnggg way to go to hit 300!

  9. Looks like blogger should have the title thing fixed pretty soon. I tried what Sarah suggested and it worked for me.

As for HP, it's not my cup of tea, but I think it's okay for older kids. And I agree with you on it encouraging kids to read.

And a giveaway! Yippee! Put my name in the hat. I could use some Good Mail. :)

CONGRATS on your post! Wowsers what a milestone...we JUST got back from the midnight showing of HP...dd went w/. a friend to the fancy theater the one way, dh, ds, and I went to the more local one that is only 3 screens and gives $$$ to the community... they both are in dif towns, one only 8 miles and only $5.50 per person the other like $8 or more and is 11 miles away through obnoxious traffic. We saw my dd's soon to be BOYFRIEND there with his family...HE's (the father lol) is A METHODIST preacher there w/ his 2 kids a a few of their friends...as I said in YS QUEEN HP is like Star wars good and evil, and the fantasy of Wizard of OZ...

I liked this movie, the rest of the crew said it was TOOO far off from the book. I haven't read the book in several years sooo I am apparently passe lol.

CONGRATS again to you what a milestone!...now if you were a tv show you could really go into syndication big time ;-)

Congratulations on the 300th! I have really enjoyed reading you for the last several months.

My dh, dd and I love HP. DD got us hooked on the first movie and we have loved it ever since. We are going to wait a couple of weeks to see it when the crowds thin out a little.

    Add me to the contest!

  15. Congrats on 300! I just made it to my 100th. I have a relative that is extremely anti Harry Potter, and it drives. me. crazy. I hate feeling like I need to censor my children's speech when they are simply being children, enjoying great stories.

  16. Sharra, we just got home from The Movie. I can safely say that nobody's soul is in danger just from watching it. It was very well done, stuck to the book pretty closely although some things were left for time or we would have been there all day long. It was worth the extra $$ for the IMAX tickets, as the last 30 minutes or so (the big fight scene) is 3D.
